How to Maintain Dance Over the Summer!
Since the 2023-2024 season of dance has ended, dance students have all had summer break. After all the recitals, dress rehearsals, and weekly classes, dancers are able to relax and go on vacation with their families. However, since the new season of dance is approaching, parents and dancers alike may be wondering how to prepare. An easy way to do this is by maintaining dance over the summer, to prepare your body and mind to get into another season.
Maintaining dance is incredibly useful to prepare for a season, and there are many ways to do it. The simplest way is to start stretching more often. Dancers can do this method in the morning to help wake up, before bed to remove bodily stress, or any other time of the day. Stretching has many benefits beyond dance and can be done anywhere, meaning that it is possible to do when traveling. However, if you are home or looking for more complex ways to maintain dance, one way is to practice skills from classes. By practicing these skills you will prepare your body for the work you perform during dance. This will prevent any injuries and ensure that you are ready to continue dancing and learning on the first day back to the studio.
Though if you are looking for a more guided way to practice, there’s always the option of taking summer dance classes. These can include masterclasses, pop-up classes, or summer technique classes. By signing up for these classes, you can get back into the flow of dance classes and learn how to improve your dancing along the way. Having a teacher in the room is an incredibly helpful way to maintain dance and prepare for the season, as they ensure you are learning something and practicing the correct way.
